100 years ago, William (Bill) Bugbee, slogged through the snow along footpaths and ox-cart trails, under cold and harsh winter conditions, to a densely wooded area nearly three miles south of the village of Paynesville.
By all accounts, he was a rugged individual who loved the outdoors. He was big into hunting, fishing, and anything that brought him closer to the elements of nature and the challenges of survival. A torn hunting jacket, worn-out boots, a wool cap, and a bottle of cheap whiskey kept the body warm.
My grandfather purchased over 100 acres of land which soon became identified as the Bug-Bee Hive Resort…on Bee-Utiful Lake Koronis. Through the years, this formative fishing compound has evolved into a first-rate vacation destination for generations of families and friends.
